The city of Seattle announced tonight at the West Seattle Junction Neighborhood meeting that the West Seattle Junction meets the initial threshold for a residential parking zone (RPZ). This is potentially a big win for the neighborhood.
Neighbors requested the RPZ to insure that residents can park their vehicles in front of their homes. In the wake of Seattle's proposed HALA and MHA programs -- which will bring hundreds of new housing units to the area -- people were concerned that parking would become so scare they'd have to park blocks away from their own houses. With the RPZ underway, residents' worries may cease. The potential RPZ will now be fully studied by the city.
