ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

information from Hate Free Delridge

On Saturday September 24th over 200 neighbors gathered to respond to a hate crime in their Delridge neighborhood. The response was a very positive opportunity for neighbors to get to know each other and share food, music and diversity. We realized a need for folks to respond to the ongoing, daily dynamic of hate and they seized the opportunity.

On October 15th we offered this opportunity to the entire city of Seattle, in the form of a candlelight vigil, which was posponed due to a pending wind storm.

We have rescheduled this chance for citizens of Seattle to reject this pattern of hate to rationalize actions by Government and citizens alike that are motivated by hate speech.

The night before our national election Nov. 7th we are asking anyone who feels they need to respond to the negativity and hatefulness in a postive way, to come to the Westlake Park at 5pm. We will observe a moment of silent hope for healing and then light our candles. People are encourage to talk, interact or even sing during this gathering. No matter the outcome of the election, we the people need to stand together and defend our American democracy.
