ARTICLE DESCRIPTION:

A new sculpture at Junction Plaza Park was dedicated in a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Nov. 20.

Created by local artist Troy Pillow, the sculpture took about a month create he said and is called "Transpose". It is a kinetic sculpture in that the 'branches' of the tree form it is, move with the wind. The idea was to create a piece of sculpture that was representative of the West Seattle Junction, being the main hub of West Seattle, the constant movement. The spokes are constantly in motion, the paths crisscrossing."

Pillow has been an artist for more than 20 years.

It's a durable structure he said, "Those bearings are rated to go 10,000 RPM's for years. They are double sealed stainless steel ball bearings."

The groups behind making the sculpture a reality are according to the West Seattle Junction Merchants Association, JuNO, The Junction Association, Department of Neighborhoods, and Seattle Parks. The total cost was $50,000 with $25,000 from Blue Star and a matching $25,000 grant through the Department of Neighborhoods.
