Crime Prevention Coordinator for the Southwest Precinct of the Seattle Police Dept. Jennifer Burbridge reminds us that "As the weather gets warmer, we often see an increase in residential burglaries," and had some advice not only on preventing crime but reporting it. For law enforcement- there is a difference between burglary and theft.
When you report a crime to 9-1-1 or to a Seattle Police officer, the language you use makes a difference!

Definitions:
Burglary
When someone enters physical property, not his or her own, without permission, with the intent to commit a crime
Theft
Whenever property is taken, that is theft

Types of Burglary:
• Residential burglary
• Non-residential burglary (commercial)

Burglary Prevention Techniques:
*Be consistent*
• Try not to leave valuables in plain sight through windows or doors
