To open the hiking season, she'll provide a historical tour of the state, including a mythic fish weir in the river and some dark holes in the suburbs. This free book-talk will be the 42nd installment of Words, Writers & West Seattle, the 'First Friday' series of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society. It will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, April 7th, 2017, at Barnes & Noble/ Westwood Village. Bentley writes hiking guides, history, and biography and is emeritus faculty at South Seattle College where she taught composition, literature, and Pacific Northwest History for more than 20 years. She is also the author of Walking Washington’s History:Ten Cities, and Free Boy: A True Story of Slave and Master (with Lorraine McConaghy). Bentley has written 17 books, including the hiking and walking guides, biographies, and books for young adults on contemporary issues. In addition, she has led history walks and bike rides for the Southwest Seattle Historical Society. "Words, Writers & West Seattle's" next First Friday book-talk is scheduled for May 5th and will feature a local author yet to be determined.
