Helgesen was born in Portland on July 9, 1929 to Charles and Ada Belle (Edwards) Helgesen. Charlene passed away in Tillamook on June 16, 2011 at age 81. Charlene grew up in the Portland area and graduated from Hills- boro High School. She attended the University of Charlene Oregon and Helgesten later the Uni- versity of Washington, where she received her bachelor's degree and master's degree in teaching. She taught in the Seattle School Dis- trict for many years until she retired in 1998. The last few years Charlene was living on the Oregon coast, where she loved walking on the beach. She also enjoyed garden- ing and football. She was a mem- ber of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tillamook. Charlene will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. She leaves behind to honor her life, her loving family, " her son, John Yee "; sister, Pat Gray of Oceanside; niece, Michele Rundgren and husband Todd of Kauai, Hawaii; nephews, Eugene Gray and wife Shirley of Beaver- ton and Jonathan Gray and wife Claudia of Eugene; and great nieces and nephews, Rebop, Lacey, Nikko and Vivian. Interment will be held at the Fir Lawn Memorial Park in Hills- boro. Recitation of the holy rosary and memorial mass was held August 3 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tillamook. Arrange- ments are in care of Waud's Funeral Home in Tillamook. per Shop, a millinery ( hat ) retail store, Kay was an early pioneer in women-owned businesses. She also relished her role as a frequent MC for fashion shows. Like her Mother, Kay was presi- dent of the Jefferson Grade School PTA. Kay and her fam- ily were all members of the West Seattle Christian Church. Kay and her husband, Bill, moved to Spokane in 1998 to be closer to fimily. Kay enjoyed remarkable health and was proud that she was able to drive until age 95 when she suffered heart and kidney challenges. She attended South Hill Bible Church and most recently resided at Ilhe Waterford, where she received exceptional care. We are most grateful for the incredible love and compassion that was so gen- erously given to her. Married for 68 years, Kay v, as a wonderful example of covent marriage. She was a devot:d mother, grandmother, gret- grandmother, aunt and friend, wlo will be greatly missed. She v, as preceded in passing by her lov- ing husband, Bill, at age 97. She is survived by sons Bill, Jr. and wife Lynn of Spokane, Bob and Sharon from Scottsdale, Arizona, grandchildren Bev (Tom), Bon- nie (Steve), Jason (Kilee), Stacey (Jeff) and great grandchildren Jen- nifer, Emily, Stephen, Jr., Maris- sa, Justin and Nicole and special nieces and nephews. Arrangements were entrusted to Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. A memorial will be held at South Hill Bible Church on Saturday, August 20th at 2 p.m. Robert C. 'Bob' MARTIN Robert C. "Bob" Martin was born Aug. 12, 1926 in Eugene, Oregon to Edgar and Adelaide (Munsell) Martin. He married Joanne Loper Sept. 1, 1951, in Portland. He graduated from Uni- versity High and University of Oregon, in Eugene and Oregon School of Dentistry in Portland. He served in the Navy as a pharmacist's mate and air corpsman from 1944- 1946. Bob practiced dentistry for 33 years ( 23 in West Seattle). He Robert was a state Martin officer in the Washington State Society of Dentistry for Children and grant- ed life membership in the Oregon Dental Association. In West Seattle he was chair- man of the West Seattle YMCA, Hi-Yu president, District Com- missioner Boy Scouts of Amer- 'ica, and chairman Seattle Sym- phony Neighborhood Concert. He also was a member of Lions Club, Kiwanis, Elks and Toast- masters. Bob passed away July 16, 2011 near his Eugene home. Survived by his wife Joanne of Eugene; sons David and Thomas, of Seattle, daughters Nancy Singh of Woodway, Karen Jacobs of Seattle and 10 grandchildren. Fayree Smithee MERCER Fayree, 94, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2011. She was born in Silverton, Texas. She moved to Seattle with her family in 1949 and settled in West Seatle. She will be missed by her daugh- ters, Diana Burchfield, Dee Thom- as and Judy Wait. Grand- children, Mike & Marty Mil- sted, Tracey Fayree Wait and Mercer Jeff Thom- as. Great grandchildren, Mike Milsted,Jr.and Isabella Voi- ght., and many friends.
