Pizzeria 22 opens in Admiral District
Thin crust pizza
cooked incredibly fast,
in an elegant atmo-
sphere
By Patrick Robinson
Getting Pizzeria 22, the new
thin crust pizza restaurant open in
the Admiral District has been a
six month process for owner Cary
Kemp. Finally, June 27 arrived and
the next phase, actually operating,
can begin.
As the West Seattle Herald pre-
viously shared, Kemp has a busy
schedule, doing up to 20 catered
events per month but will now
scale that pace back as he gets the
restaurant going.
Located at 4213 College St.
(across from Blockbuster Video)
the restaurant occupies a reason-
ably narrow yet elegantly remod-
eled space.
The back wall is adorned by a
painting of an erupting Mt. Vesu-
vius painted by Torrez.
He held a soft opening the previ-
ous week and it went well.
"The soft party was awesome,"
Kemp said. "It couldn't have been
a better night. It was amazing."
Just prior to opening Kemp hung
a good luck charm over the door-
way, an ornament of Pulcinella.
Kitchen Manager Carl Schu-
mann said they keep the oven hot
24 hours a day (though not on fire
the whole time) which makes get-
ting it up to the 900 degree operat-
ing temperature easier. They seal it
up at night so it retains the heat.
"It's been challenging," said
Kemp of getting everything ready
to go. "There's a light at the end of
the tunnel.
Now that it's open you can
expect $5 8 inch pizzas during
happy hour (stop by to ask for spe-
cifics) but the hours of operation
at Pizzeria 22 are Sunday through
Thursday 4pro- 10pro, Friday and
Saturday, 4pm - 1 lpm.
Though you might assume it's
for 21 and over only, Pizzeria 22 is
a family restaurant. "My two girls
would kill me if I opened a pizza
place that they couldn't come to,"
he said.

been challenging to maintain his existing catering business and open the restaurant too but he's
very grateful for the community interest and support.
