12 Friday, June 24, 2011 West Seattle Herald OBITUARIES Alta Josephine (Jo) BAKER July 29 1912 ~ June !1, 2011 Jo, nearly 99 years of age, pas- sed away at her Kenney residence. Loving family members and dear friends surrounded her. Her hus- band of 75 years, Owen Baker, and two children, Joan Evans and James Baker, pre- ceded her in death. Five grand- children, her daughter-in- Alta Jo law, niece Bakere and nephew survive her. She spent her formative years in the Portland area, later retiring to West Seattle in the early 1970's. Jo and Owen were very active mem- bers in the West Seattle Christian Church. Together they enjoyed horticulture, vegetable and rose gardening. Sewing was one of Jo's passions and she was also known as a gourmet cook. Owen and Jo were often seen hand in hand taking long walks in and around their neighborhood. Jo will always be remembe- red for her kindness, generosity, patience, goodwill and warm wel- coming smile. She always loved her family, many friends and many causes during her long life. There will be no formal services. Jo will be interred next to Owen at Riverton Crest Cemetery, Tukwila, WA. Memorial donations can be made to The Image Reborn Fou- ndation. Grant D. BROWN Grant Brown, 68, passed away June 14, 2011, after a long struggle with cancer. He was born, raised and lived his entire life in West Seattle. Grant attended West Seattle High School, graduat- ing in 1960. He went on to work for Boeing for the next 48 years. It was there that he Grant met his wife Cathy, to Brown whom he was married for 40 years. Grant showed his passion for the local community by dedicating his life to youth sports, volunteering as a coach, manager and mentor to children for more than 40 years. Grant is survived by wife Cathy; mother Margaret; brother Alan; sis- ter Donna (John) Popich; children Doug, Teresa (Joey) Stanker, Cath- leen (Shayne) Dunsmore and Phil; and grandchildren Stevin Peters, and Dillon and Bailey Budde. He was preceded in death by his father Don. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at Tibbetts United Methodist Church, 3940 41st Ave. S.W., Seattle, WA. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hydroplane & Raceboat Muse- um, 5917 S. 196th St., Kent, WA 98032. Barbara Ann FUDA At age 56, a beloved wife, moth- er, grandmother and friend left us Saturday June 4, 2011 while sur- rounded by her loved ones, fol- lowing a courageous battle with cancer. Barb is survived by the love of her life and best friend, her devoted husband Robert, their children Melissa and Barbara Whitney, Fuda son-in-law Tim and grandchild Conner, sister Sharon, mother-in-law Ann, sister- in-law Gina and son Christopher, sister-in-law Michelle, husband Cameron, niece Madison, and nephew Brandon, as well as many other loving family members and friends. Barb was preceded in death by daughter Megan, her par- ents, father-in-law Joe and sister- in-law Debbie. Barb was a devoted employee of Safeway for 41 years. She served the West Seattle community with loyalty and dedication. Barb will forever be remem- bered and loved deeply. We will miss her for all eternity. A funeral was held at Holy Rosary Church in West Seattle on June 10, 2011. The family has asked that dona- tions be made to the Susan Cohen Colon Cancer Foundation.
