Summer is oftena slow time in charitable giving for all types of organiza- tions; food banks often feel a strong pinch as children whom are eligible for school-based feeding programs are home for the summer and families find themselves scrambling to keep healthy foods on the table. As part of Give Big, all participat- ing organizations are eligible for "stretch dollars" as the Seattle Foundation will proportional- ly donate funds from their own donors to grow the amounts to each individual benefiting chari- ty on June 23. The more an indi- vidual charity raises through the Seattle Foundation's website on that day the greater their por- tion of stretch dollars. White Center Food Bank is making donating even easier - and fun. Representatives from WCFB will be on-hand with lap- tops at Dubsea Coffee located at 9910 8th Ave S.W. Seattle, WA 98106 on June 23 from 7 until 9 a.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Special gift for those donors that stop by during those times and donate $100 or more through the Seattle Foundation's website. If donors can't attend this special giving event, anyone can go directly to the Seattle Foundation website and donate. In May 2010, White Center Food Bank served 1,633 fami- lies / 5,316 individuals. For us, these are record numbers that we usually only expect at holi- day times. But as our economic conditions wear on, we see more people experiencing food inse- curity.
